Yep. They were known as The Shop. Liked dabbling in trying to create abilities in people. One drug test killed ten out of twelve test subjects. Two of them got married. Had me and we were stalked. They saw me as a huge success, never mind the fact that ten people died, or that my dad's own ability was killing him.
[There's a shrug, another attempt at acting like this isn't a big deal. It is. It's obvious it is with the way she messes with her hair and is avoiding looking directly at Ed as she speaks.]
They wanted to catch us, see. Me, specifically. Almost got away with it once after killing my mother while I was at a friends house. Over a year later, they succeeded.
[Ordinarily this would get a mocking look and a smart-ass response. It's Ed, after all, that's his defense mechanism and pretty much his solution to everything. But this is McGee, and he's grown a little. Sort of. So instead he watches her thoughtfully. And actually listens.]
...Well shit. So is that what landed you here, or...?
[In which Charlie cracks a half-hearted joke in three...two..] No, a possibly sentient multi-universe pocket dimension City run by douche bags is what got me here. All this stuff happened when I was younger.
[And she turns, finally looking at him and smiling slightly.] The Shop had to shoot me with a tranq while they hid in trees.
[If that doesn't tell Ed how seriously afraid of her they were when she wasn't even in her teens...] They brought me to one of their facilities. Kept me from my dad. The last person I had left in the world and I wasn't allowed to see him. So, me and another person who I thought was my friend came up with this idea.
The Shop wanted demonstrations? Okay. I could do that. They had to do something for me first. I asked for things. A new doll. Clothes. Kept building to bigger things the bigger the fire they wanted me to make. My ultimate goal was to see my father. I couldn't get them past letting me ride this horse named Necromancer.

[Not that he isn't appropriately sympathetic; he makes the right face for it, at least.]
