Fourth Smoke Signal - Video as usual

[Charlie is seated near the device, holding a bit of her hair in front of her eyes and smiling just slightly. Her hair has finally returned to it's normal color, as has everything else, honestly. She seems pleased by this. More than pleased. She seems excited and relieved. Not that she'd say this out loud, but fire looked weird in black and white and she was sure she looked terrible, too. Picking up the device, she turns it towards herself.]

Now that things are. . . I guess 'back to normal' isn't quite the phrase I'm looking for but, it'll have to do. Now that things are back to normal, I guess it's time I found a job. And possibly a room-mate, since both of those have come highly recommended.

For the job, my skills lean towards most things culinary. I spent a lot of time working in a few restaurants back home and by a few restaurants I don't mean I was fired. I mean I had to leave for one reason or another so if anyone knows of anything I can do with that, that'd be amazing. I'm also a fast learner and willing to try almost anything else.

[She shifts, the device wobbles slightly and she straightens it again.] As for the room-mate, I don't have any weird habits. I'm pretty good at keeping organized and out of peoples business and if you're interested, we'll talk. I almost went for getting a pet but the only 'pets' I have ever had were chickens and horses. I don't think they'd fit here.

[With all of that being said, Charlie goes to turn off the device and fumbles it slightly, a softly spoken 'mother fu--' escaping her mouth before the device switches off.]

A cow? [Jealous girl is jealous.] That's awesome.

And yeah. It's pretty neat how many restaurants pay under the table where I'm from.

My first boss here gave it to me.

Well, there are a few restaurants that could probably use those kinds of skills.

That's what I'm hoping. I mean, not that I'm not willing to learn anything else. I just think it'd be easier to go with what I already know.

Well, I don't know if we need any more help at the bookstore but I'll see what Neil thinks.

I'll have to check the barn out. I grew up on a farm. Barns are pretty comforting places.

I'm good! Happy to see The City is once again in technicolor. Still hate that I'm here but, whatever.

Watch out for the bay named Valor. I think he likes to bite.

We may have seen some of what could be worse. I don't think I'd like to see that again.

That wasn't a fun one. I missed colors. It was a little too weird for me.

Fire doesn't look right in black and white, for starters.

Yeah...

No, it doesn't. But, then, nothing looked right. Hair like yours especially.

I've been told hoping for the best and expecting the worst is a good way to handle this place.

[She smirks because that almost sounded like flirting, fingers running through her hair a bit nervously.]

You should have seen it when I was younger. It was very blonde.

[It probably almost was. C'mon, how could he not? She's purty~]

Is that so? Hard to believe.

It was. It darkened on it's own some.

[And by some, we mean a lot. Also? She has NO IDEA WHAT TO DO WITH FLIRTING! Especially from someone as good-looking as he. Oh, dear.]

[Oh dear, indeed. And he's just having some fun with it...]

[This'll just have to be typical conversation for them. Since it's fun.]

Just a little, yeah. I forget if I ever asked you how long you've been here and where you're from.

Six months. And that [the second half of her question, he means] depends on what you mean.

I've only been here a week or so. Not terribly long.

Yep. I was at a hotel near a bus station, waiting to get a bus from there to Alaska. Apparently, The City has other plans.

[Now that it's, ah, been cleaned up a bit.]

[A tinge of amusement here--]

No. It's just where I was last.

I'm looking for people for the teashop.

Yeah? That sounds right up my alley. What would you need me to do there?

Make tea, serve it. Nothing too hard, I just have a hard time telling the kinds apart.

I can manage that easily.

Names Charlie. Mind if I come by the tea-shop for a visit?

Yeah, I figured.

Charlie, okay. I'll be there -- the Jasmine Dragon, it's called. And I'm Toph.

Pleasure to meet you, Toph. I'm on my way.

[And the voice feed shuts off. Charlie shows up at the Jasmine Dragon a few minutes later, asking the first person she meets for Toph.]

[Toph has a good sense of hearing. So she considers Charlie before turning around to introduce herself. Older, with a certain... something about her Toph finds familiar. She's spent a lot of time with firebenders, although she doesn't make the association, doesn't really realize. It wasn't a big deal, whatever was different about Charlie. Everyone in this City was strange in some way, after all, and Toph herself was no exception. Most people wouldn't expect a blind twelve-year-old to be running a tea shop, and honestly, she'd rather not be doing it, but she'd made a promise to a friend, and she intended to keep it, no matter how many people complained. Thinking of Iroh puts her in a good mood, actually, and she is smiling when she approaches Charlie. She speaks without looking up to meet her eyes.]

So you're Charlie, waitress extraordinaire?

[Charlie was hardly taken aback at the fact that Toph was younger. There might have been a seconds pause before she spoke but then she remembered this was the City. Stranger things have happened (hello, 50's and bubblegum colored hair). Besides, Toph had already carried herself with a bit of maturity that Charlie found impressive. She grinned, nodding slightly and noting the way Toph was...rather...wasn't looking at her. Interesting.]

Yes. That's me. Waitress. Chef. Also good at cleaning and keeping things organized. You must be Toph.

That's me! Toph Bei Fong, aka the Blind Bandit, aka your new boss. When do you do want to start?

[Someone who didn't condescend to her? Great. She could use a few more people like that in her life.]

[Charlie was in a situation where people were nothing but condescending, when she was roughly younger than Toph, even. So that wasn't something in her nature. At all. Unless someone deserved it and even then? No.]

Interesting nickname. I can start whenever you need me to.

[Toph grins.] It's my favorite. And there's an apron behind the counter.

[Best day since arriving here!] Good deal! And than you, Toph. I look forward to working with you.
